The five Pillars of Islam
The Five Pillars of Islam are the basic five Primary obligations that Muslims must fulfil in their lifetime.
The Pillars are significant as these obligations provide the structure of a Muslims life. Islam regards life to be pointless without putting faith into action and practise. The carrying out the Five Pillars demonstrates that Muslims put faith first, and putting their secular lives second
They Consist of;
1) Shahadah (Declaration of faith)
2) Salat (Prayer)
3) Zakat (Charity)
4) Saum (Fasting)
5) Hajj (Pilgrimage

1. Shahadah is the first pillar of faith, also most basic requirement, this is to publicly announce ”There is no God but Allah and Muhammad’s is his servant.” This statement expresses a Muslims complete acceptance towards Islam.
With Saying the statement of Faith you proclaim all beliefs of Islam, which Include:
· Belief in One God
· Belief in the Prophets
· Belief in the Holy Books
· Belief in Angels
· Belief in the Day of Judgement
· Belief in Fate

2. Salah, Prayer, is the second pillar, which is performed five times each day by Muslims. The Islamic faith is based on the fact that individuals have a directs relationship with Allah. The five Prayers are;
1. Salat al- fajr: - Before Sunrise
2. Salat al –zuhr: Midday
3. Salat al - ‘asr – Late afternoon
4. Salat al –Maghreb -Just after sunset
5. Salat al – ‘isha: Between sunset and midnight.
Before saying each prayer, you are required the wash yourself, this process is called ‘Wudo’ which is the purification Process. Whilst saying each prayer, Muslims are required to be facing in the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca. Salah can be performed anywhere, however recommended to to perform selah in a mosque.

3. Zakat, charity, is the third pillar. This is the social responsibilities Muslims are required to do as it is considered part of ones service to g-d. To fulfil Zakat’s duty, ones required to give 2.5% of their wealth for the benefit of the poor or needy.
There are Five Principles that should be taken it thought when giving Zakat
1. Declare to G-d his intention to give Zakat
2. Zakat should be paid on day that is due
3. After the offering, The payer shouldn’t exaggerate on his spending’s
4. Payment must be kind. (High Income earners should pay more than low Income earners
5. Zakat Should be distributed in the community
However Zakat only needs to perform if one is able to.
Muslims may also donate more , this is an act of Sadaqah , voluntary charity, in order to achieve additional rewards from Allah.

Belief in g-d: Muslims emphasise on the morality of one g-d, He is the Supreme and eternal, Compassionate and merciful, and the creator of the world. As The idea of multiple gods is rejected is Islamic beliefs as seen throughout the Quran.
Belief in his angles: The Belief of angles is an essential requirement for Muslims, Allah has created angles from light for purpose of worshiping him, are powerful, and follow every command that Allah has required them to do.
Belief in his Books: Muslims are required to believe in all revelations sent by god, The 5 scriptures/books that Muslims are required to believe in are;
1. The Torah to Moses
2. The Scrolls of Abraham
3. The Gospel to Jesus
4. The Psalms of David
5. The Quran to Mohammed
However it’s believed that the Quran was sent down to correct the previous mistakes in the past books/scripts and is to serve as flawless guidance for humanity.
Belief in his Prophets and messengers: Muslims Believe that God sent Prophets and messengers that had received revelations of G-d and expressed it towards the people ever since the beginning of mankind. The Prophets and Messengers were perfect examples of how praise God. The purpose of this was illustrate the concept of Monotheism.
Belief in the day of judgement: On the day of judgement, Muslims believe that all actions that an individual has expressed throughout the journey of their lifetime will be held accountable. On this day, Every Muslim will encounter G-d and be questioned about all their sins and deeds. From this, it is determined wether you depart to heaven or hell.
